Greetings Saints,
Always a delight to visit with you. Love to receive your emails, you are a great encouragement and
blessing to me.
Have you ever wondered why Jesus cursed the fig tree? Well I surely did. More than once have I asked
Him why would He curse the fig tree just because he did not find figs on it?
Well He showed me, and if you are interested, read on and I will show you what He told me.
Here is the account of where he spoke to the fig tree.
Matt 21:18-22 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.
And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and
said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! Jesus
answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only
do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and
be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing,
ye shall receive.
He came looking for fruit and found none. This is the key. Bear fruit or be cursed. And your fruit is
directly related to your believing. That is why he continued with telling them they could do the same and
more by believing. He was showing the correlation between a fruit bearer and one that is not. One who
lives and walks by faith or one who allows natural circumstances to control their lives.
Luke 13:6-9 (New Life Version) Then He told them this picture story: "A man
had a fig tree in his grape-field. He looked for fruit on it but found none. He said to his
servant, 'See! For three years I have been coming here looking for fruit on this fig tree. I never
find any. Cut it down. Why does it even waste the ground?' The servant said, 'Sir! Leave it here one more
year. I will dig around it and put plant food on it. It may be that it will give fruit next year.
If it does not, then cut it down.'"
This is just good business. If you plant a vineyard and all are producing fruit but one.
It is only good business to get rid of the one tree that is wasting the space on the ground that another
could be producing on.
How does this relate to us? Jesus says it best in the book of John.
John 15:2-8 (New Living Translation) He cuts off every branch of mine that
doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You
have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in
you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless
you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will
produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away
like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain
in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you
produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.
Well one might say, it seems the Lord is cursing his people. No never! It is just the opposite! He is
teaching us that unbelievers are living under the curse.
You are either living by faith, moving mountains out of your way, or you are living in the natural,
controlled by the circumstances of life. So then, you are either in the blessings or you are under the
curse, your life in shambles. Your purpose is to bear fruit, just like the fig tree was supposed to bear
fruit. If you do not, whether by deception or some other trick of the enemy, you are under the curse, and
need to immediately adjust your believing to align with the Word of God.
When we produce fruit it brings glory to God because we have believed and acted on His Words, abiding in
them, instead of our circumstances lording over us.
So then, it is our choice, cursed or blessed, choose life it is so much better! Stay in faith!
